The most revered Wat in Laos. It is huge and very beautiful
This is the modest house of the chief Monk. He receives dignatories here.
A very calm and simple verandah for meditation and listening to the venerable one.
We asked the tuk tuk driver to drive us around the last of the big sites in Vientiane on Monday afternoon. This included the Wat Luang – the most important of the Wats in Laos. It’s huge and very beautiful up close. Folk Lore says the Burmese (they get blamed for everything) invaded the country and stole all the gold from there – now the Wat is painted gold as opposed to being gilt. Along side the Wat are temples (of course) and the chief monks house – the equivalent to the ‘Vatican’. It is seriously impressive. So much for living the simple life!
